Stephen’s Post-Owners’ Conference Thoughts

by Stephen Langdon, Gold’s Gyms San Angelo, North Midland & Midland, TX

Anyone reading this is almost certainly a self motivated, ambitious person who got where they are the hard way.  We are all “Generals” in our daily struggle to survive the battle for business.

We all know we cannot do battle alone.  We select people whom we think can best represent our interest and go to war with us.  We battle the nay sayers, the competition, and “The Establishment”, which is always sniffing around seeking a larger, undeserved part of our hard won income, while simultaneously seeking to restrain our ambition.

In our local “War Zones”, we have all fought and won, but on the larger battleground we must come together.  If it were not for our united front, the GGFA, we would all be looking at paying royalties.   We would all be on our own to confront a multi-million dollar Juggernaut.  Terms for renewal and new territories would be dictated, not negotiated.  We would be paying mark-ups on equipment.  Who knows what else we might be facing now if not for our united front.

We must remain united, and continue to encourage new members to join us in our struggles.  Together we are strong. Alone we are weak.  Beat up on non participating Gold’s Gym owners when you visit them.  Recruit them.  The fees are a pittance.  Be ready to explain the benefits.  Be aware of all the projects underway within the GGFA.  Where else can you confer with a room full of like minded “Generals” and discuss strategies openly?  It is a “no brainer” to join.

One Response to Stephen’s Post-Owners’ Conference Thoughts

What a great message. I couldn’t agree with you more. Too many franchisees take too much for granted when it comes operating in this franchise environment. Get up, get going and get involved. We’ll all be the better for it.
