Claiming that GGFA’s Owners’ Conference is one of the BEST events of the year is saying something. There are so many terrific industry shows; how can I back that one up? Here are a few terms that come to mind when describing the conference: intimate, informative, engaging, motivating, fun, and finally REAL. When I say REAL I mean real operators talking about real issues and real opportunities. As Ginger told me recently, “we call it the owners’ lodge meeting”. I understand how that term would apply. I’m so glad that for the past several years I’ve been able to attend. The impact of the conference has made a big difference for me personally and professionally.
The Gold’s franchise family is comprised of some of the leading operators and thinkers in the health club industry today. I’ve had the privilege and fortune to meet and work with many of them. And while my partner Robert Dyer and I are proud to serve dozens of Gold’s franchisees as customers, attending the event is more than just us being a vendor. We have some of the best and deepest relationships in the business with our Gold’s franchisee friends and we respect them so much.
From the insightful workshops and presentations, this year’s review of marketing initiatives by Rich and Gordon was spectacular, to the social functions, the event is always special. Spending time listening and learning from the owners and operators who live and breathe the health club industry every day is really a treat. More than anything, it’s the combination of reconnecting with long time friends and people we admire so much, all of whom are part of Gold’s secret sauce and success.
If you haven’t been to the GGFA Owners’ Conference before or recently, make sure you do in 2013. You’ll be glad you did. My hat goes off to the leadership of the GGFA and its special executive team. Thank you for all you do. I’ll make sure to see you all again next year.
