Matrix_all_colorTechnology is redefining the fitness industry. Entertainment, web-based educational content and mobile applications coupled with users’ increasing desire for constant connectivity have created an opportunity that didn’t exist a few years ago.

Commercial facilities want more variety. They want the ability to develop strength-training programs that lead to progression and progression leads to a more results-oriented fitness program, which incorporates a variety of strength-training machines.

Tony Rea from OCI’ve been an IHRSA member for about 30 years and have missed only a handful of conventions.  The sessions and the tradeshow are extremely useful tools for learning and getting new ideas to bring home.  I use the convention as an incentive for my staff to earn throughout the year.  It’s motivational.  It’s educational.  And it’s a lot of fun.

Star Trac Logo resizedWhile flying home from the IHRSA show on Saturday I reflected on my experience this past week.  I strongly believe that this was the best IHRSA show in a decade.

This event was a transformational for Star Trac and our senior team was so pleased.

As a matter of fact, every vendor I spoke with was equally pleased (plus IHRSA scored an A+ according to the Sal-O-Meter scale).

I had three national accounts who I have been chasing for two years and our meetings in Las Vegas change the direction and we will finally bring them across the finish line! It just goes

to show that IHRSA is the launch platform for any new vendor or new product introduction.

Our new product showcase was very successful and we are off to the races!

We appreciate the IHRSA team for all of their amazing hospitality and partnership. In my opinion, IHRSA 2013 was a huge success!

I thought this IHRSA was one of the best that I’ve attended. The venue was fantastic with everything being under one roof. The speakers I went to were okay. And the trade show was also very good with lots of room and everything a gym owner could want. So my rating of this year’s IHRSA convention on a scale of 1-10 would be a 9.

New club business models, the expanding scope of technology in the industry and the trend to a more international industry and IHRSA conference were apparent at the show.

Trending:

Clearly the arena of programming continues to emerge as a big trend with more emphasis on group fitness, functional fitness and small group training programs. The emergence of technology as a driver of change is clear, from flooring that has integrated sensors and displays to new virtual group training experiences. Technology is increasingly impacting the industry.

I really noticed that the international feel of the show has increased. My understanding is that attendance was around 45% from outside the US and you could tell. This reflects the increasing international nature of the health club business. I was asked to speak to a group of Chinese club owners and enjoyed that interaction a great deal.

Opportunities for Gym Owners:

The opportunity to engage customers using new technologies is upon owners now. Consumers are becoming more demanding and expecting to have interaction where and when they chose. New platforms and tools make this an affordable and real world solution for owners to grow their sales and improve retention.

IHRSA is a blast and it was wonderful to connect with all of our Gold’s Gym friends and family.

I would say for us the best part was being able to look at all the new equipment, products and services offered by the vendors and trying out some of the new equipment.  It also was good to talk with some of the other Gold’s owners and operators at the GGFA.

The trade show was impressive! The venue was a definite improvement over previous years and the vendors presented a variety of impressive products and services. Our trip was worth it for the show alone.
